Is Snoring Actually A Serious Health Issue?

Apparently, snoring can actually be a sign that something is seriously wrong concerning your health. According to a new finding, Snoring can be a sign of sleep apnea which isn’t a serious condition itself but can lead to other serious such as headaches, high blood pressure, and even a heart attack. Normally, you would have to go to a lab to get testing done that would confirm or deny your suspicions about your having sleep apnea. However, now there is a a patch, that looks and feels like a nicotine patch, that you can put on in order to diagnose sleep apnea yourself.
The patch is apparently eighty seven percent accurate and that number will increase in the near future with more testing and resulting improvements made to the patch. The patch works by measuring sleep time, pressure in your nose, sleep position, pulse rate and any breathing struggles you might have. This is an important advancement because something like sleep apnea and snoring is not something people take seriously enough to go spend money on a doctor about but now they can at least skip the doctor for the diagnosis and go straight to them for treatment.
As far as whether or not YOU should try the patch, it’s fine for use for all adults above eighteen years old who are not currently pregnant or nursing. Also, just because you snore does not mean you automatically have sleep apnea – the real sign of sleep apnea is abnormal and excessive snoring. If you feel that you are borderline with your snoring then you should play it safe and get checked out. Unfortunately, the device is not yet approved by the Federal Drug Administration but it is well on it’s way. In the interim you will still need to speak with your doctor if you feel that you may have sleep apnea.
